Tree represents groundiness, earthiness, jording. Something stable, old, deep and supportive. Roots hold the tree in constant contact with the environment. They give the tree the ability to aim high towards the sky. Roots are a means of communication, a network and a support system.
Latest research shows that trees are able to communicate with each other through roots, much like we humans are through our minds. We can also learn a lot about our own roots while engaging with nature and opening our senses to its details and beauty.
Where do your roots lie? What is the ground you jump from? Are you being supported from within?
In this skogsyoga session you connect to your roots and give yourself an opportunity to embody the grounding force of nature. Practices concentrate on calm, meditative yoga postures and movement that allow the mind to become present, observative and perceptive. You learn more about balance, its biomechanics and philosophy.
In addition, you learn about the tree as a representation of the whole universe and how this idea can help you to understand your roots. World Tree, Yggdrasil inhabits 9 different realms of the Old Norse cosmology, each representing an aspect, a point of view to the world. Yggdrasil holds the order of realms in balance, supporting and allowing them to coexist.
Welcome to experience (your own) nature. The session includes a short introduction and a yoga practice that concentrates on settling into your natural state of being. We conclude with drumming meditation (in case it is not too humid for drumming).
Skogsyoga draws inspiration from yoga, Norse mythology, folklore and archetypes as well as from Forestmind techniques (designed to utilize and intensify the natural healing effects of forests, read more here: http://metsamieli.fi/Forestmind-fi/).
WHEN: Wednesday 15.9. kl 17.30 – (around) 19.00
WHERE: At Bymarka near Kyvannet. The exact meeting location will be announced in the registration confirmation.
COST: 150 kr
WHAT TO BRING: Weather-appropriate clothing. Yoga mat is not necessarily needed but you can bring one (or an underlay for sitting) along if you wish.
Prior experience in yoga is not needed.
Maximum 10 participants. The event takes place with a minimum of 5 participants.
NOTE! If it is raining heavily, I will consider cancelling the event. In the forest everything is already perfect, no matter what the weather is. So, please join only if you are comfortable with dirtying your hands or getting a bit wet. In skogsyoga we practice the attitude that weather is only a matter of equipping. Going beyond your comfort usually deepens the practice.
